About the Club
Back in the middle twenties it is near truth to say that barely one in ten
of Scarborough people even knew the actual shape of a rugby ball, but in spite
of this there were in the town half a hundred individuals who not only knew
the shape but were roaring to get cracking and play the Union game. And so,
on a memorable evening in November, 1926, those fifty enthusiasts, full of
the game, but with no idea where they might find a ground on which to play
it, met in the Pavilion Hotel. The Scarborough Rugby Union Football Club had
come into being.
